The client: Waste Management Company. This is a Bournemouth-based family-run business established in 1991.  The company supply portable toilets to construction sites and have a fleet of units for events and festivals.

The brief
Experiencing some very bad outsourced accounting at extortionate prices, the client was searching for a reliable accountancy firm to streamline the company’s accounts production process and straighten out the books in readiness for the VAT return.

Birkett & Co’s Approach
Following recommendation, Birkett & Co were appointed to review the status of the financial records and implement immediate changes within a two month period in order to meet the VAT return deadline.  As a result of the review, Birkett & Co set about updating the client's financial records and introduced Sage 50 Accounts to the company as this package is ideal for small to medium-sized businesses, helping them to manage everything from cash flow and VAT returns to year-end accounts and manage customers and suppliers.  

Following the update and streamlining of the company’s finances, Birkett & Co introduced a book-keeping and payroll service to the company.  Birkett & Co’s outsourced book-keeping service deals with all the financial paperwork including invoicing, credit control, VAT returns, preparation of management accounts and ensures that regular financial information is not only available but is prepared in time.  The payroll service takes care of the whole process of paying employees, including the challenge of staying up to date with constantly changing payroll legislation and regulations.

The Outcome
Since Birkett & Co were appointed five years ago, the client has grown year-on-year and its employee base has increased from 8 to 14.  The company now has accurate financial records which are required for both taxation and VAT purposes.
